Hey, lovely bloom! Thanks for wandering into my little paper flower garden. 🌸

Difficulty: ★★☆☆☆
Time: About 2–3 hours
Today, we’re making a cheerful crepe paper kumquat garland filled with plump golden kumquats and deep green leaves.😍
The kumquat fruits are made by wrapping Styrofoam balls with tape, while the leaves are cut from crepe paper and connected one by one to build the branches. You’ll need to make several fruits and leaves, but the process is simple and repetitive, with no difficult techniques involved. Even if you’re new to paper crafts, you can still create a beautiful finished piece.
If you’re looking for a relaxing hobby to enjoy at home or want to make a handmade paper decor piece that you can display for a long time, come make this crepe paper kumquat garland with me. :)😘

This kumquat garland is a beginner-friendly project because there’s no need to layer delicate petals or create complicated flower centers.💕
You’ll make the kumquat fruits by wrapping Styrofoam balls with floral tape, then create the leaves repeatedly from crepe paper and connect everything together. The steps are simple, so even though you’ll repeat the same motions several times, your hands will quickly get used to the process and you’ll naturally become faster as you go.😊
Even if this is your first time working with crepe paper, there are no especially difficult techniques, so you can still create a polished and beautiful finished piece. 🙂
For the leaves, I used dark green Italian crepe paper. For the kumquat fruits, use Styrofoam balls around 2.5–3 cm in diameter. Mixing both sizes instead of using only one size will make the finished garland look more natural and realistic.
After the branches are finished, secure them to the wooden branch with binding wire. If you don’t have binding wire, you can also use twist ties or 27-gauge floral wire instead. ^^😍
The finished garland is about 35 cm wide, which makes it a lovely size for hanging on a door, wall, or small interior space.
How to Make a Crepe Paper Kumquat Garland

STEP.1⬆️
Cut two pieces of dark green crepe paper using the leaf template. These leaves will give your crepe paper garland a rich, realistic look.😊

STEP.2⬆️
Place the two half-leaf pieces so the crepe paper grain forms a V shape. Glue a piece of 23-gauge floral wire along the edge of one half, then place the other half on top and glue them together.😍

STEP.3⬆️
Use a sponge to apply a thin layer of gloss varnish to the leaves. This adds a natural shine and makes the leaves look more lifelike.

STEP.4⬆️
Wrap yellow floral tape around each Styrofoam ball until the white surface is completely covered. Mixing 2.5 cm and 3 cm balls will make the kumquat fruits look more natural.😘

STEP.5⬆️
Use a sponge to gently add orange pastel to the surface of each fruit. Build up the color gradually to create the warm citrus tones of real kumquats.😊

STEP.6⬆️
Apply a small amount of wood glue to the end of a 23-gauge floral wire, then insert it into the fruit and let it dry securely.

STEP.7⬆️
Apply gloss varnish to the finished fruit. This gives the kumquats a fresh, glossy finish and helps create the realistic look of this citrus garland.😍

STEP.8⬆️
Connect the kumquat fruits and crepe paper leaves one by one to create several small branches. Arrange them at slightly different angles so your fruit garland looks full and natural.❤️

FINAL STEP💕
Tie a ribbon around the wooden branch, then secure the finished kumquat branches with binding wire. Adjust the leaves and fruits until you’re happy with the shape, and your handmade crepe paper kumquat garland is complete.😍

Eva’s Tip
The overall size of your kumquat garland can change depending on how many fruits you make and how much space you leave between each branch.
You don’t need to make it overly full or crowded. Around 12 kumquat fruits are enough to create a bright and eye-catching crepe paper garland. 🙂
You also don’t need to make every leaf exactly the same. Slight differences in the leaves and fruits actually help the finished branches look more natural and realistic, just like a real kumquat tree. ^^
Always make sure the grain of the crepe paper follows the direction shown on the template.
When making the leaves, arrange the crepe paper grain in a V shape. This is very important because the correct grain direction helps create natural-looking leaf veins and makes it easier to shape each leaf beautifully.😍💕

Today, we made a paper flower kumquat garland that gives you a quiet moment to focus on simple, repetitive steps and forget about everything else for a little while.
And when you finally hang the finished piece on the wall, there’s something especially satisfying about seeing a beautiful decoration you created with your own hands.
Made with simple materials and easy techniques, this crepe paper kumquat garland is beginner-friendly, yet the finished piece looks full, elegant, and surprisingly refined. ^^😊
If it’s difficult to gather all the materials on your own, I’ve also prepared a carefully packed kit with everything you need.
I hope you’ll give this project a try and enjoy the little happiness that comes from creating something beautiful with your own hands. :)😍
